Dreaming of Travel

IMG_1995.jpg

I’m dreaming of being able to travel again! And travel journaling is a big part of the pleasure for me. It’s a way to understand what I’m experiencing, remember what I’ve seen and process new places in a deeper way. Above, my travel journal from a month-long trip to Italy. I used a canvas refillable journal, which I painted with my interpretation of the colors of Florence.

Left, some of the small sketches I made in the journal. All of these are quick studies, with writing around them to document where I was and what was going on. I also tape/glue in various paper ephemera, business cards and brochures.

Taking the time to do a small drawing is so meaningful for the experience. It’s a chance to slow down and absorb what I’m seeing and feeling. I highly recommend such a practice for your next trip — yes, we’ll be out there again (maybe masked and gloved…)
